Save the Cheerleader; Save the World…

cast of NBC’s “Heroes”
Yeah! I finally had a chance to get out and enjoy the glorious weather we’ve been having here on Long Island. The temps are in the 60′s and I can hear the little birdies singing! I love it. But I’m not lovin’ my school break. Spring Break is proving not to be a break at all for me. I’ve been running around like a crazy woman – chauffeuring the kids, running errands, taking care of doctor’s appointments…UGH! I finally decided to put a stop to all the madness and chill out until classes start again. I think I’ve cooked one meal in the past 4 days (Corned Beef and Cabbage for St. Patty’s Day yesterday) and I’ve managed to keep up with the laundry; that’s about it though. I really don’t care what my house looks like this week. hehe… I’m having a blast watching episodes of the TV show “Heroes” (thanks to my friend Joyce who has me totally addicted to this series). I watched 4 hours of it last night on Netflix while working on the project below.
This is for a “shaped fan book” swap hosted by Alpha Stamps…can you see the fan shape? Everyone makes 5 pages and receives 5 back. I like it because it’s a different theme than most other swaps I have participated in.
That’s it for now. Thanks for visiting and sticking around with me despite my whacky posting schedule! My blog buddies are very special to me and I love hearing from you:-). Stay tuned cuz next week I’m doing something special with these two chickies…Deb and Mel…and I’m thinking about dragging BFF Audrey into some mischief too!

Woo-Hoo I beat the Flu!

Wow...this flu bug really did me in! I can't believe how long it's taking me to get over this thing. After 2 weeks I still feel tired and run down. I've been drinking lots of tea and taking vitamins- and trying to get more sleep, which is hard to do when you're the mom of 2 teens who have very busy schedules.

Well, I'm happy to be back in my little art room, but I'd forgotten about all the projects I had started before this flu thing hit us. I think it's time to get moving and finish these before the deadlines come and go. In the meantime, I thought I would revisit a project I had fun with over the summer.

I was part of an art collaborative and our assignment was to create an altered book with a nursery rhyme theme (doesn't that sound so cool?). I chose "Mary, Mary Quite Contrary" and used a children's hardcover book as my base. Here's the book before, after it had been sanded and wiped down (poor Dora...I'm so sorry sweetie)...

and after:

I don't know if you can tell by looking at the photo, but I am seriously addicted to gesso...

I use it on everything. It's a borderline obsession, and it's all Audrey's fault. It took her a year to finally talk me into using it on my artwork and now I can't stop! I'll talk more about the virtues of gesso (and oil pastels) in another post, but for now here's a peek at the rest of the pages.

Thanks for visiting with me and being such great online friends! I'm going to slowly but surely work through this crafty mess of mine over here, and will hopefully have something fun to share soon...Oh, almost forgot! I received the most adorable album from Faye. I'll post a video soon but in the meantime, check it out on her blog. This thing is soooooo cuuuuuute!!!

Have you noticed all the Marie Antoinette-inspired art that has recently appeared all over the internet? I admit being attracted to the decadent, alluring and tragic tale of this lavish Queen of France since reading this magazinepublished by Stampington, and I’ve been fascinated by the work of the many artists who have portrayed her life in their pieces. The gorgeous dresses, decadent lifestyle and bling, bling bling!!! Everything is so lavish and opulent; music to this girl’s heart. So imagine how thrilled I was when I was accepted as a member of Marie Antoinette Mail Art; a group of artists from all over the world who gather together to celebrate all things Marie. I just love this group! Everyone is so friendly, and talented (I’m a bit intimidated for sure); and they all welcomed me with open arms. I created these ATCs to celebrate Marie, her lavish lifestyle, and the new friends I have made through the group. Images are from Vintage Bella. Thanks for visiting…be blessed:-)

GGS September Swap

I was so excited (and nervous) about participating in the GGS (Girls Gone Scrappy) monthly group for the first time that I was very late sending out my completed book to my trade partner...Big "faux paux" when you're the new kid on the block! But thank Goodness Hope was very patient and kind, and from what I hear, has received her book with no further delays. I'm posting a few pictures of the girlfriends-themed mini I made for her and a short video. Most of the materials used came from a kit I purchased from Blue Moon Scrapbooking (the Shining Madonna kit). I LOVE Scott and Lisa's kits! Thanks for visiting and hanging out with me for a bit today. Enjoy your weekend :-)

xoxo,
